The New RES - FAQ
Beginning October 5, 2010, RES Software will introduce several changes that may raise questions among customers and members of the IT community. The following frequently asked questions should help explain and clarify these changes.
Q. What has changed at RES Software?
A. You will notice that RES Software has launched a new Web site, new partner portal, updated its logo and changed its product names. These changes were made in order to help customers and members of the IT community understand RES Software and its products better and find information more easily on the Web. RES has also made some important new product and release announcements.
Q. What new product announcements are being made by RES Software?
A. Previously not packaged together into one suite, RES has introduced its Dynamic Desktop Studio (see below for more details). Additionally, RES has announced Automation Manager 2011 (formerly RES Wisdom), which now includes the availability of the Service Orchestration Module. Lastly, patented and popular Virtual Desktop Extender (VDX) technology, previously part of RES Workspace Manager (formerly PowerFuse) has been announced as a standalone product available beginning January 2011.
Q. What new product names of changes should I be aware of?
A. All of the RES products have changed names, and there are some new products to be aware of:
- RES PowerFuse >> RES Workspace Manager
- RES Wisdom >> RES Automation Manager
- Orchestra >> Service Orchestration Module (new module of Automation Manager, not standalone)
- Combined products >> Dynamic Desktop Studio
- Virtual Desktop Extender (VDX) technology (once only available as part of PowerFuse)>> Virtual Desktop Extender (VDX) (now a standalone product)
Q. How will these changes affect existing RES PowerFuse and RES Wisdom customers?
A. The new Web site will be a big change for existing customers, but it will be easy to navigate and they should have no trouble finding the information they need.
From a product perspective, when customers upgrade, the product will be rebranded, including updated splash screens and icons. Existing PowerFuse and Wisdom customers can also take advantage of the new orchestration features by adding the Service Orchestration Module to their environment.
Q. When is Virtual Desktop Extender available as a standalone product?
A. While the VDX product will launch on October 5, the standalone product will ship beginning in January 2011.
Q. What is the Dynamic Desktop Studio?
A. Dynamic Desktop Studio is a new way of grouping our products together. In the past, when our products were purchased together, it was still worked under the old PowerFuse name. The Dynamic Desktop Studio combines Workspace Manager (formerly PowerFuse) and Automation Manager (formerly Wisdom), including the new Service Orchestration module (formerly referred to as Orchestra) of Automation Manager. It also highlights our existing Virtual Desktop Extender (VDX) technology.
Q. When will this new suite of products be officially available?
A. The complete Dynamic Desktop Studio will be available for purchase once Automation Manager 2011, including the Service Orchestration Module, ships by November 1. Demos are available now by contacting RES directly.
Q. What benefits does the new Dynamic Desktop Studio offer to customers?
A. The combination of products included in the Dynamic Desktop Studio help organizations move toward a more strategic model of delivering IT as a service. Companies can still get the same benefits that RES Software has always provided, including:
- Making change easier
- Reducing costs
- Enhancing security and compliance
Q. Do customers have to buy the entire Dynamic Desktop Studio from RES Software?
A. No. They can purchase Workspace Manager or Automation Manager now, and beginning in January, they will be able to purchase Virtual Desktop Extender (VDX) as a standalone product.
Q. Are there product packaging changes beyond product names to be away of?
A. Yes. You’ll notice that RES will begin moving away from editions into modules.
Q. Why have the products been broken down into modules?
A. Partners have requested that our product move away from packs into a module format. This type of packaging is common, and it should not be unfamiliar to our customers or partners.
