RES Software Drives Adoption of Desktop Virtualisation and User Workspace Management Solutions with New VMware View Proof of Concept

Solution comes as customers increasingly looking at desktop transformation initiatives; enables users to experience desktop virtualisation in a fast, modular and accessible manner.

London, UK — 23rd February 2010 — RES Software, the proven leader in user workspace management, today launched a Desktop Virtualisation Proof of Concept (PoC) based on VMware View. The PoC helps customers to examine and understand the potential benefits of desktop virtualisation for their organisations by packaging everything needed for a successful trial implementation into a “ready to use” solution, based on VMware View and RES PowerFuse User Workspace Management products.

For the virtualisation market, this PoC will accelerate deployments of desktop virtualisation and ensure that projects deliver the benefits the customer expects.

“When customers are looking at desktop transformation projects like desktop virtualisation, keeping the same user experience and ease-of-use is important to the success of the trial. By combining RES PowerFuse with a VMware View proof of concept, we make sure the user’s personalisation and settings are delivered seamlessly in a virtual transition from their physical desktop into the virtual environment,” said Ronnie Khan, Country Manager, RES Software UK. “Taking this approach means that end-users don’t see any difference, which is key to a virtual desktop programme being accepted, and the organisation realising the value that can be delivered with desktop virtualisation.”

“The desktop virtualisation PoC based on VMware View combined with RES software brings a powerful offering to UK customers looking for ready- and easy-to-use desktop virtualisation solutions. 2010 is going to see substantial growth in virtual desktop deployments as organisations see the cost and agility benefits it delivers to the business, as well as the consistently high performance desktop experience it brings to employees. This valuable solution will help our partners deliver VMware desktop virtualisation projects to our customers more effectively,” added Mark Newton, UK Regional Director, VMware.

As a VMware Ready partner, RES Software’s User Workspace Management technology helps customers minimise challenges in any desktop transformation exercise, ensuring a quick, seamless migration that provides users with continuous access to the desktop tools they need to complete their jobs. Because RES Software provides a centrally-managed, automated desktop management solution it reduces the amount of time and money that IT organisations must devote to overseeing the desktop infrastructure, saving significant time and money that can be allocated to other mission critical business objectives.

"The increasing awareness that centralised, virtual desktops provide greater control not just for IT but also for the individual and the business, is leading to greater uptake of such approaches. However, IT rapidly finds that it’s not all as easy as it seems: all users have a unique environment and requirements based on how they work and the applications they use. Reflecting this desktop diversity can be time-consuming and error prone,” commented Clive Longbottom, service director at Quocirca. “RES PowerFuse gives a far more controlled and automated approach to discovering exactly what users have at their desktop, in replacing this with an exact equivalent and then in monitoring and managing the new desktop with the minimum of fuss."
The PoC assists customers in successfully implementing and trialling the solutions required to support virtual desktops successfully. The proven methodology is based on seven phases, some of which are optional depending on the customer’s existing IT infrastructure and experience with virtualisation.
