User Environment Management

User Environment Management is a commonly used term to describe the decoupling or separation of a user’s settings, data, applications and personalization from the underlying infrastructure. Because of the separation of a user’s personalization from the device, operating system and delivery platforms, any changes to these technologies or hardware will have minimal disruption on a users.  In essence, organizations future-proof the desktop environment with user environment management. This is beneficial as organizations look to cloud computing and other technologies to reduce costs and improve IT efficiency.

Another major advantage of user environment management is that a user’s personalization and settings will roam with them as they log on to different devices or use different delivery platforms, like from physical desktop to virtual desktops, to access their Windows desktops.

With user environment management, a user’s settings and personalization are portable and centrally manageable by IT. This can all be accomplished without the need for complex scripts. RES Workspace Manager enables user environment management by creating context-aware and adaptive workspaces managed in a single console.

The user environment management capabilities of Workspace Manager are ideal for hybrid environments that consist of multiple delivery technologies and devices. It allows IT to have unified management across all the platforms within an organization.

The term user environment management is often interchanged with workspace management, user virtualization and persistent personalization.
